Thought Police

Do you remember the old book 1984?  It was supposedly a fantasy about a dark future of government thought control.  I remember reading it and being terrified.  One of the more frightening tools in the hands of the thought police was the existence of newspeak, where words actually have their meanings changed.  I think we have arrived.  The Chairman of the Join Chiefs of Staff caused a press-quake this week when he said he considered homosexual acts to be immoral.  The gasps of dismay from the effete elite were exceeded only by the squeals of indignation from the professional homosexuals.  The politicos ran for cover, calling for investigations and resignations.  Some went so far as to characterize this statement as “hate speech.”  Being thus classified is the last stop before criminalization    Just a few years ago it was a crime to insert sexual organs into orifices for which they were not designed.  Now, we are dangerously close to being fined, sued, and incarcerated for objecting to sodomy.  The thought police are here. Now, I must admit that the nasty tone of much so-called “Christian” rhetoric on the subject is distasteful.  Many of us seem to have decided it is OK to despise this particular class of sinners while carefully avoiding comment on those who practice our own personal favorites.  Jesus died for homosexuals just as surely as for drunks and addicts and gluttons and liars and hypocrites and lazy people.  That does not change His opinion of their behavior.  It is immoral.  It is sin.  It requires repentance and change.  The violent emotions surrounding this particular issue reflect the natural abhorrence that most folks have to the idea of same-sex intercourse.  It is built in.  It requires years of brainwashing to get people to deny their feelings, which most now do on the public level while still being secretly nauseated by the idea.  And brainwashing is exactly what is happening in our schools, in our libraries, and on our televisions.  We are not being scolded for having moral values, but for having the dreaded “intolerant” moral values based on Scripture.   The God of the Bible is now the bad guy.  Newspeak, indeed.

Scripture Reading:  Isaiah 5:20-21 MSG  Doom to you who call evil good and good evil, Who put darkness in place of light and light in place of darkness, Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!  (21)  Doom to you who think you’re so smart, who hold such a high opinion of yourselves!

Somebody Said:  Where we have strong emotions, we’re liable to fool ourselves.
            — Carl Sagan, Cosmos (Blues for a Red Planet)

The issue is so emotionally charged it is difficult to stay on message, but the talking points are simple.  Jesus died for our sins.  Homosexual behavior is sin.  God loves homosexuals. Forgiveness and deliverance are ours in Christ.  For us to say otherwise would be sinful!

  1. Good Article on Brainwashing and Newspeak. Our young people are being inudated with garbage in their schools – maybe that is where our churches have come up short — Christian Schools are few and very expensive — the schools have the children many more hours than parents so the anti-Christian, anti-American indoctrination is overwhelming. The Mission field is here at home and very needed for the young people. Children’s church is great and am grateful for it but an hour or so a week compared to 25 hours or more a week at school …
